Today we absorb information in different ways. Beyond rational and conscious information gathering through reading and listening, we sometimes subconsciously absorb information through movement and sensorial inputs as light and texture. For the exhibition “Home Futures”, SO–IL was commissioned by the Design Museum in London to translate the main questions the exhibition raised into an experiential environment: How have architects and designers dealt with the question of the future within the domestic realm?

Because the future is uncertain, and contains a myriad of trajectories, the exhibition design proposes a multitude of journeys through the different sections of the show. These sections are neither categorically nor hermetically defined, but actually influence one another. To capture this, translucent and transparent walls were employed, having the visitor also experience the “other side.” Custom exhibition furniture alludes to domestic elements such as tables, stairs, and cupboard, in industrial materials; while a bed and a garden create a memorable experience for repose within the densely curated exhibition.
