Tina Kim Gallery, New York, USA, 2015
Affiliated with Kukje in Seoul, the Tina Kim Gallery is devoted to showcasing and introducing international contemporary art.
The century old, two-story brick building historically functioned as a gas station for luxury vehicles and formerly housed the Casey Kaplan Gallery. Our redesign of the ground-level announces the gallery’s presence with the creation of a new expressive entryway.
The former frosted glass door entrance aligned with the sidewalk. In a creative reinterpretation of the architectural detail known as the corbel, the new entryway gently curves inward to invite the public into the gallery. The exacting yet expressive brickwork was laid by hand following a custom computer script. This merging of a traditional technique and digital approach provides gallery visitors with an unexpected experience of the familiar.
