Palace for the Eastern Bluebird
Palace for the Eastern Bluebird, Brooklyn, New York, 2022
As part of an event at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, For the Birds, architect-designed birdhouses were installed throughout the landscape. The multispecies design was aimed to facilitate biodiversity and cooperation between the man-made and the non-human.
Inspired by the intricate and haphazard way that birds weave their nests, Palace for Eastern Bluebird was constructed from 3D-printed clay, producing textures evocative of woven structures, along with a small nesting cavity. The clay palace, with its earth tones, hopes to draw the interest of birds, especially the eastern bluebird, to create a newfound interaction between the birds and human built structures.
