2. Abri / 幄
This project is located in a small hamlet in the south of Belgium, not far from the castle of the King. Within the domain royal pitched roofs and the use of local materials are mandatory. This directive allowed for an exploration of vernacular form.
The garden shed had to offer both dry storage for tools and garden furniture, as well as covered but ventilated storage for fire wood.
By having the staggered red cedar façade wrap around the volume in two loops of different radius, an in-between space is created for the ventilated storage while maintaining the abstractness of the form. The red cedar turns gray over time, taking on the color of the roof slates.
